We’ve got a delightful story to share that’s as warm as the glow of our candles. If you’ve been with us for a while, you might recall the incredible moment when our Kansas Earth and Sky Candle Co. candles were featured on HBO’s hit show Somebody Somewhere. It’s a story that still makes us beam with pride!
For those who might not know, Somebody Somewhere is a brilliant comedy-drama series created by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, with Bridget Everett leading a cast that’s been winning hearts since its debut in January 2022. With its 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 86 on Metacritic, this show has been getting rave reviews for its authentic portrayal of life in Manhattan, Kansas. What made this extra special for us was seeing our candles make their way into almost every episode. Our signature brown kraft paper boxes with our classic logo became a small, but delightful part of the show's set. But the real cherry on top was when Bridget Everett’s character, Sam, actually held one of our candles and said, “and I’m keeping the candle.” It was such a thrill to see our product featured so prominently!
Sarah Smarsh, a renowned Kansas author, beautifully captured the significance of Somebody Somewhere in her article. She highlighted how the show portrays our Kansas community with authenticity and heart, breaking away from the usual stereotypes. The inclusion of our candles in the show was more than just a fun surprise—it was a testament to the show’s dedication to representing our region truthfully.
Even though this spotlight didn’t lead to a huge spike in sales, it’s a story we love to share with our customers. It’s a reminder of how our small business is part of something much bigger. We’re grateful to the creators of Somebody Somewhere for featuring our candles and for showing the world the rich, diverse, and authentic side of Kansas.
