Paraffin is a petroleum by product—which release carcinogenic soot when burned. The soot can also cause respiratory problems and will aggravate the conditions of those who already have asthma, lung, or heart problems.
“Burning an aromatherapy candle made of paraffin is similar to preparing a healthy drink of fresh squeezed juice and adding a shot of gasoline.”
Besides endangering your health and that of your family, soot from paraffin wax can cause significant damage to the inside of your house, plus your computers, electrical appliances, and ductwork.
Why use Soy? The benefits are extensive. First and foremost soy wax is derived from Soy Beans. Specifically the soy beans that are grown right here in the Midwestern United States. The Soy Wax we use is purified and essentially edible, (although you should never eat or taste your soy candles or soy melts). After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated.
Its sustainable, meaning, Soy can be renewed and regrown over and over again by hardworking farmers across the US. Being in central Kansas, we know the pride and care that farmers put into their crops, and its rewarding to know our candles contain a product that supports farming families.
Soy candles burn 50% longer than regular candles. Therefore, even though soy wax candles are sometimes more expensive than paraffin wax candles to buy, they are still more cost-effective in the long run. Furthermore, soy candles burn evenly, leaving almost no excess wax on the sides of the glass.
Soy candles are non-toxic since they are made of vegetable oil, have a lower melting point (so the wax itself doesn’t get as hot), produce negligible amounts of soot, and release no known carcinogens into the air. Compared to paraffin candles, soy wax candles are much healthier for humans, pets, and the environment. Plus, they clean up easier (just use soap and water) when the wax is spilled onto candle holders, carpet, and furniture pieces.
